So if I were to get a new company car for work use only, it would mean I have some options with my Liberty. So, should I sell the Liberty and buy a Wrangler, Sell the Liberty and use the money to be a generous Trail Buddy, or keep the Liberty and see where it gets stuck? Although it's hypothetical, the company car thing is a very likely event this year.

Of course if I had LOTS of money, I would consider doing a SFA conversion on the front of the Libby, just to be different. But that's a pipe dream.

Just looking for opinions.

like you said, there would be a lot of work necessary to get your liberty in to a hardcore offroader. having said that, there is liberty friendly trails out there.

there's always seems to be pre-built jeeps (cj - tj) available used too. So you could easily sell your liberty and probably turn around to buy a ready to go wrangler (not to say that a stock cj/yj/tj is anything but good to go!)

I'd go with a TJ personally. but I'm biased ;)

It's obviously all about what you want to do. Do you love the Liberty and want to make it work or do you love off roading and just want something that you can get out and have some fun in?
If you go shopping for a Wrangler, watch the Jeep Kings classified section. There's always something interesting over there for sale.

I think you should sell the Libby and become MY "generous Trail Buddie" :P . I would prefer spending somone elses money on my heep. failing that, I think the best bang for the buck is still a Rubi TJ. God Knows we loved our Libby, but even after a solid axle swap it's still no more than a cute cherokee.

I agree with most people here that it depends what you want to do. If you want to do a couple of mild trails a year then keep the liberty. If you want 4 doors and no car payments get a Cherokee and build it, car payments ok then JK. If you want something that you can wheel out of the box with little to no work get a TJ. Want to be ostracized by the club get a Toyota (just kidding)

I'm not sure I'd be THAT generous a trail buddy Stitch... But I do always feel slightly guilty riding in someone else's rig while mine sits sound and safe somewhere. It's just great to be out on the trails, plus it's fun to see what works and what doesn't with different setups.

It's fun wheeling the Liberty, but it is quite limited the way it is set up now, and although dents and damage aren't as crucial now, they still sting a little. Even if i lifted higher, got better tires and locked front and back, with an ARB bumper and winch, I'd still have a major challenge with almost no flex in the front. Mild trails are great though.

A TJ (Rubicon preferred) would be my likely choice if I buy a Wrangler. Maybe I'm a wimp, but I'd really like an automatic. I think I'll start cruising the classifieds on Jeep Kings, Kijiji, Autotrader etc. We'll see what happens.
The first thing my company told me when they said I can likely get a company car this year was "No Jeeps!" I think they know I'd have a hard time resisting wheeling it.

There is nothing wrong with having an automatic... You will just have a harder time finding a used automatic. Especially if you are picky on color and other options. Good luck with the decision.

Well, we'll see what happens in the late summer. Likely agood time to buy is after the wheeling season. If only I had lots of cash I'd make my Liberty look like this:

Well, the news is in. Looks like my Liberty will be with me for quite some time to come. No company car = no selling anything.

Unfortunately (and fortunately), I'll just keep tagging along on the trails once in a while.

But Someday who knows.......(Gotta keep dreaming).
